Silk, not satin. And 100% silk on both sides.
Satin is a weave, not a fibre. A satin pillowcase is almost always polyester, woven to look glossy.
And most "100% silk" pillowcases are silk on one side only. The face you see is silk. The face underneath is polyester. It's sold as a silk pillowcase, and technically nobody lied.
Ours is 22 momme mulberry silk on both faces. Flip the pillow and you're still on silk.

Why any of it works
Two properties. Everything else follows from them.
Every claim in this category traces back to two physical facts about the fibre. Once you know them, you can work out the rest yourself.
Nothing drags on it.
Woven cotton is rough at the scale your skin and hair care about. Silk isn't, so both slide across it instead of catching. That's where the frizz, the breakage and the crease down one cheek all come from.
Nothing soaks into it.
Cotton is a wick, and for eight hours a night what it's wicking is your face. Silk absorbs a fraction of that, so your skin keeps its own moisture and keeps whatever you put on top of it.

Skin
You spent all that on skincare. Then you fed it to a pillow.
The serum, the retinol, the moisturiser that comes in a small bottle and gets used sparingly. All of it applied at ten o'clock. Most of it gone into the pillowcase by midnight.
Silk leaves it where you put it. And with nothing dragging your face sideways all night, the crease down one cheek stops happening.
- Skincare stays on your skin
- No morning creases
- Less friction, less irritation
- Kinder to sensitive skin
- Holds moisture instead of stripping it
Hair
Cotton has been pulling your hair out for years.
Every time you turn over, your hair drags across a woven surface. A few hundred times a night, every night, for years. That's most of what people call frizz and a good deal of what they call breakage.
It's also why every stylist tells anyone with fine, curly, coloured or chemically treated hair to sleep on silk. You wake up with the hair you went to bed with.
- Less breakage
- Less frizz
- Fewer tangles
- Keeps a blow-dry another day
- Retains natural oils
- Kind to colour-treated hair

Sleep
Cool when you lie down. Still cool an hour later.
Cotton takes on your warmth and keeps it. Silk doesn't, which is why you stop reaching for the other side of the pillow at three in the morning.
Particularly worth it if
- You sleep on your side and wake with a crease down one cheek
- Your hair is fine, curly, brittle, chemically or colour-treated
- You have sensitive or acne-prone skin
- You sleep warm, or wake up warm
- You spend real money on skincare and would like it to stay on your face
The only number that matters
22 momme. Here's exactly what that means.
Momme is a weight measure, and it's the one number that tells you how much silk you're actually buying. 19 momme is thin and wears through. 22 is the premium standard, and it's what the expensive brands use. Most sellers never print it, because "100% silk" reads the same either way.

What 22 momme weighs, and how to check us.
Put it on a kitchen scale. If a pillowcase sold as 22 momme weighs half what the arithmetic says, it isn't 22 momme — or it isn't 100% silk on both sides.
We'd rather tell you how to catch us than ask you to take our word for it.

The £80 pillowcase, side by side.
The silk costs the same to make whoever is selling it. The difference is the campaign, the magazine spreads and the celebrity. You keep the difference.
Independently tested
OEKO-TEX® Standard 100. Here's the certificate number.
Every component of the fabric tested for harmful substances by an independent institute, against one of the strictest textile safety standards in the world.
Plenty of brands write "OEKO-TEX certified" and stop there. You can look ours up.
If you already have the DermaPro
Ten minutes of light. Then eight hours undoing it.
You do the mask. You put the serum on. Then you lie face-down on cotton that pulls at your skin and drinks half of what you just applied, for the longest stretch of the day. The pillowcase is the part almost everybody skips, and it's the part that runs the longest.
Most people have more than one pillow.
And the spare room, and the one you take to your mum's. Mix colours however you like.

"I stopped waking up with a line down my cheek."
Two weeks in and that was the first thing I noticed. Not my skin, not my hair, just that the crease I'd had every single morning for about a decade had gone. Small thing. Bothered me more than it should have.

"My hair isn't fighting me in the mornings any more."
Fine and colour-treated, so it tangles at the slightest thing and I was straightening it most days just to make it presentable. I've barely touched the straighteners since this arrived. That alone is worth it.

"I weighed it, because they told me to."
Honestly bought it half to see if the number was real. It was. I've never had a company tell me how to check whether they were lying, and after everything else I've wasted money on, that's what got me.

"Finally something that stays cool."
I'm at the stage where I'm hot all night and flipping the pillow over about six times. This doesn't warm up the way cotton does. I'm not going to pretend it fixed everything, but I'm sleeping through more often than I was.

"I'd bought a 'silk' one before. It was polyester."
Fifteen pounds off Amazon and it felt like a bin bag by the third wash. The difference is not subtle. I didn't know about the momme thing until I read this page, and now I check it on everything.

"Better than the envelope ones."
Lovely quality and the zip is much better than the envelope closures that always work their way off in the night. Only thing is I wish it came in a king size, I've had to order two standards for our bed.

The questions we actually get
How do I know it's really silk?
Weigh it. The arithmetic above says roughly 79 grams finished. If it comes in at forty, something is wrong.
Or burn a thread from the seam. Real silk smells like burnt hair, self-extinguishes and crumbles to ash. Polyester melts into a hard bead and smells of chemicals. We'd rather you checked.
Will it fit my pillow?
51 × 76cm, the standard pillow size in the UK and Australia. If your pillow measures roughly 50 × 75cm, it fits.
Isn't silk dry clean only?
Not this one. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle in a mesh bag with a mild detergent. No bleach, no softener, no tumble dryer. Hang to dry out of direct sun.
Washed properly it will outlast cotton. Washed hot, it won't.
Does it slide off the pillow?
It has a concealed zip rather than an envelope flap, so the pillow stays put. That's the main reason silk cases get returned elsewhere.
How long before I notice anything?
The creases and the hair usually within a week or two. The skincare difference sooner, because you can feel it in the morning.
What if I don't like it?
30 days. Sleep on it for a month and send it back if it isn't for you.
You spend a third of your life here.
It may as well be on something that isn't working against you.
